    How to get into top IIT Colleges in India

    The Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) is an autonomous public institution that is considered the most premium and prestigious engineering college in India. Being called an IITian is a dream for most youngsters across the country. However, getting into this dream place is not very easy. Aspirants have to pass two entrance exams to secure their safe position among one of the IITs across India. The exams are highly competitive to secure admission to the BTech program. There are in total 23 IITs in different places across the country which provide seats to nearly fifteen thousand engineering aspirants. According to MHRD NIRF 2021 ranking, the top five best IITs of the country are ranked based on the following criteria

    IIT Madras has topped the NIRF Ranking for three consecutive years the courses provided in engineering by this institution are: Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Engineering Physics with a cutoff mark of 89.93.

    IIT Delhi with a cutoff mark of 88.08  is one of the most reputed institutes offering engineering courses in Biochemical and Biotechnology, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, and Computer Science. The campus is beautiful with Qutb Minar and Lotus Temple located nearby.

    IIT Bombay is the second oldest institution in India. It offers comprehensive graduation programs with engineering in Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Engineering Physics and doctoral degrees in Science and Maths. The cutoff marks to get into this institution is 85.08

    IIT Kanpur is a research and technology institute that provides courses in Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Mathematics and computing Engineering with a cutoff mark of 82.18.

    IIT Kharagpur is the oldest IIT which has one of the biggest libraries in India. It offers courses in engineering in Industrial, Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, and Instrumentation. The cutoff marks to get into this institution is 80.56

    How to get into the top IITs?

    To get into IIT one has to secure the best results in the JEE exams. Every year out of 20 lakhs aspirants appearing to give the entrance test for IITs only 2% of them meet success. So you know the competition is not at all going to be easy. Here are the 4 steps you have to pass to land at your dream place.

    1st Step: Give the JEE(Mains) examination

    2nd Step: Around twenty thousand students shortlisted from JEE(Mains) will appear for JEE(Advanced) examination

    3rd Step: Get an All India Rank(AIR) Only if you achieve 35% marks in aggregate of all the three subjects that is physics, chemistry, maths your ranking will be considered.

    4th Step: If you pass in achieving an All India Rank then you will be allocated a seat at IITs through a process conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority(JoSSA)

    Therefore to get your admission into IIT it is compulsory to clear both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.

    Admission Eligibility for appearing in JEE exam

    Appearing for JEE exams requires at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class 12th Board examination. There is no set age limit for JEE mains.

    The pattern of the papers

    • Both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced will be online based(computer-based)
    • Questions asked from three subjects physics, chemistry, and maths
    • MCQ type question with options that vary section-wise
    • The time allotted for answering is 3 hours for both
    • JEE Mains total 90 questions out of which students are required to answer only 75. Incorrect answers will be given a  negative marking 
    • For JEE Advanced the total marks vary from year to year. It has two sets of papers with  54 questions present in each

    Strategies you can follow for your IIT entrance exam

    • Know the JEE Syllabus well have a thorough look at every topic, its subtopics, and the keywords present in them
    • Get the proper PDF Study Material for IIT JEE
    • Make a meaningful study  timetable for your preparation keeping in mind the time left for your final exam 
    • Stay away from all sorts of distractions
    • Work on your weaker topics and sections from all the three subjects
    • Practice as many mock possible that will help you get an idea of where you stand in terms of  your preparation
    • Solve the previous year JEE mains papers as many possibilities that will make you confident and will keep you updated with the question types
    • Try to make short notes or flowcharts wherever possible to make complicated things easier to understand
    • Be consistent with your practice. Solve less but Solve daily
    • Do thorough revision of the topics already covered every day. Do not keep things piled up for last minute
    • Motivation is very necessary. Do not lose hope always cheer up yourself and think positive
    • Take guidance from teachers whenever stuck somewhere they will guide you best
    • Eat foods that are nutritious and take proper sleep for 6-7 hours
    • Taking coaching for JEE preparation will surely be helpful but do not rely on them completely because what is required more is SELF STUDY
    • Learning shortcut methods and tricks will be very helpful in solving MCQ questions in an optimized manner and will also save time
    • Have the correct peer group present around you who help in boosting your mentality and motivate you throughout your preparation

    Studying for JEE requires one to be immersed in drudging preparation day and night. Without sacrificing and working hard one cannot strive for success. Keep these tips and strategies fixed in your mind and work accordingly.
