It’s not always possible to prevent a bloody nose from happening but there are things you can do to lower the chances of getting one.

    Medications from Prescription Delivery

Get a saline nasal product from a prescription delivery service to keep the inside of your nose moist. Keeping the inside of the nose moist is important, since dryness can cause nosebleeds. You can also use a thin layer of petroleum jelly in your nostrils before you go to sleep or apply an antibiotic ointment.

    Use a Humidifier

The inside of your nose might be dry because the air in your house is dry so use a humidifier to fix humidity levels.

    Don’t Smoke

Smoking irritates the inside of your nose and can also cause it to dry out.

    Don’t Pick Your Nose

Along with not picking your nose, you also don’t want to rub it or blow it too hard. If it is your child getting nosebleeds, keep fingernails short and discourage them from nose picking.

Don’t Use Allergy or Cold Medications Too Often

These medications can dry out your nose. In some cases, certain medications can actually cause nosebleeds or make a bloody nose worse. If you keep getting nosebleeds, discuss it with your doctor but always keep taking medications unless a doctor tells you not to.

    How to Treat Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds aren’t usually serious. You can treat them by following these steps. Stay calm. When you are getting nervous or worked up, it can make you bleed more. Don’t lie down and remember to keep the head above the heart.

Lean just a bit forward to keep the blood from draining in your throat. Pinch the nostrils closed. Use your index finger and thumb to hold the nostrils closed and just keep breathing through your mouth. This can put pressure on the part of the nose that is bleeding to help it stop.
