It is essential to brush your teeth every day to eliminate the bacterial plaque deposited on the teeth and prevent periodontal diseases. Poor oral hygiene is associated with problems in the oral cavity and other problems in the body caused by the entry of bacteria through the mouth. It is essential to follow these tips by Idaho Falls General Dentist to ensure good health:

Here Are A Few Tips For Oral Hygiene

    • Brush your teeth and gums every day, after meals, three times a day. The accumulated foods can vary the saliva’s pH, necessary to avoid the accumulation of tartar and the demineralization of the enamel.
    • Choose the right toothbrush and toothpaste, as suggested by General Dentistry. To choose the type of toothbrush that is best for you, you can ask your dentist, he will advise you based on your characteristics which one suits you best, as well as the most suitable type of toothpaste for your mouth.
    • Use dental floss to remove accumulated food between teeth in small spaces. It is unnecessary that you use it after every meal but at least once a day is very important or when you notice that something has accumulated between your teeth.
    • Use interdental brushes if the space between your teeth is vast. Interdental brushes are a great help whether to clean between orthodontic wires or under bridges.
    • At the end of the cleaning, use mouthwash. The mouthwash can be a great ally to have pleasant breath or help prevent or treat periodontal disease. Mouthwash is a complement to brushing; it can never replace dental cleaning.
    • If you cannot brush your teeth after a meal, you can eat crunchy foods (fruit or vegetables) or chew gum. Chewing gum favors the drag effect and increases saliva production. During the chewing process, the production of sodium bicarbonate in the saliva is stimulated, which neutralizes acids and favors the teeth’ mineralization. However, this can be done in specific situations, not to replace daily oral hygiene.
    • Change your toothbrush every 3 or 4 months and your interdental brush every 4 or 5 days, or when the bristles are worn or deformed. It is essential to renew the toothbrush because bacteria can accumulate between the bristles.
    • Visit your dentist once or twice a year and clean your teeth every year. Your dentist can check the condition of your mouth and thus prevent periodontal diseases.
    • Do not forget to brush your teeth daily and do it correctly to avoid the proliferation of cavities. Good oral health is essential not only for your mouth but for your body.
