The Most Uplifting Audio Books for Men
A great book is one of the most rewarding and nourishing experiences you can have. As you are led through the narrative and introduced to the rich tapestry of characters and happenings it can teach you things about yourself and the world around you that you didn’t know before.
However, in the busy world, we live in, it’s becoming harder and harder to find time to sit down and practice dedicated reading. That’s one of the reasons that audiobooks have become so popular. Being read to as you lie in bed, as you drive, or even whilst you cook is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the world of a book without having to dedicate your eyes and hands to it.
Below is a list of some of our favorite uplifting audio-books for men, stories that feature characters and themes that encourage and inspire.
Catching a Miracle by Mark J. Spinicelli
Catching a Miracle is a beautiful story that examines true grit and the strength of the human spirit. The protagonist is a doctor by the name of Shelley White, after miraculously surviving her terminal cancer diagnosis as a child, she is set on a take-no-prisoners journey to find the cure. With twists, turns, conspiracy, and corporate blockades, this non-stop thriller is one hell of a ride. As the first in a trilogy expect to be drawn into a beautifully crafted world that asks as many questions as it reveals stunningly simple answers. It’s a story about never giving up, and that theme is plumbed to beautiful depths.
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
Get ready to immerse yourself in the theater of the absurd. The world of Ignatius C Reilly may at first seem ridiculous and unlikely, but as you follow this walrus of a man and his ill-fitting green hunting cap further down the hot-dog shaped rabbit hole, you may be surprised how much of your own life and surroundings you recognize. Reading a Confederacy of Dunces is a lesson in humility, the characters are by large detestable, the setting grubby and unwelcoming, this is not a book for those seeking a beautiful holiday or escape. It is however richly rewarding for those looking to understand what it is to be human, and the story behind the book’s release is almost as inspiring as the narrative within.
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace
If there is a more polarizing book out there we have yet to read it but for us, it has to make the list of most uplifting audio-books for men. In his magnum opus, David Foster Wallace struggles magnificently with what it means to be human in the modern world and how entertainment can both divide and bring us together. How what we choose to do in our free-time ultimately shapes us and our very being. It is a steep hill to climb and as intelligently written as it is verbose, which means it is infinitely more accessible in audio form. Having it read out loud can help pace it a little better for those who may get lost in some of the terminologies.
